As for me, born in Seoul, South Korea in 1982. My parents are first generation immigrants in the US.
I lived in Texas for a couple of years. My dad made due by starting at working at a gas station with a Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering. He is currently an entrepreneur and runs a mechanics shop. My mom is quite amazing as well as she raised three boys while running her own business as well. She used to run a liquor store, but decided she didn’t like the crowd that showed up at times- now, she runs a dry cleaners. Quite the amazing couple, I’m working on my relationship with them. Families - aren’t easy are they?
I have two brothers, Rex and David.
My family moved to Denver after my brothers were born and lived there for quite a while. I attended University of Colorado at Boulder and graduated in three and a half years with a degree in Russian Studies and a minor in business. In retrospect, I wish I took a year or two off and explored life before getting into college. I didn’t realize what the purpose of college was for until after I graduated… At least I learned now…
The most important part of my life these days is the love of Christ. I know it sounds weird, but my life was pretty pointless before then. I was addicted to video games and selfish, I’ve thought about suicide plenty of times and depressed all the time. I’ll be honest with you, I hated church, I went to church for 15 years of my life, with my parents, all I saw was hypocrisy and just hated the socially-driven atmosphere. The last thing I wanted to do in college was go to church. I’m a recovering people pleaser- one guy kept asking me to go to church with him, I said “maybe” really thinking “no.” I’m glad he was persistent, because I eventually said “yes.”
I studied the Bible with him and another guy that I respect and love. I am grateful to God to have had this opportunity. I dedicated my life to Christ five years ago in 2001.
It has been a difficult journey thus far, you have to work on it everyday to follow Christ. I’ve learned a lot in the past few years and I wish to share it with those who are opened to it.
Thanks for taking the time to read. God bless.
