My brother Rex Kang found this email I sent him in 2008.
Italics are comments from today.
I’m restructuring my life to get it back into a healthy state and back to being energetic and focused. I want to share my goals with you for this new year and I would love to hear what you guys would like to do this year too. Time flies and it is our only nonrenewable resource so please use it wisely.

Goals for 2008
Keep it Simple
Health
-Begin 16 week abs – Only got through 3-4 weeks.
-a healthy 80kgs by 12.31.2008 – Got down to 95kgs , but not
Wealth
-Online $3K at the end of January – making about $25/month in my online efforts
-12% Contribution – Kind of doing this had to start over and go to 11% after getting married.
Spirituality
-Man of God: Humble, righteous, wise, diligent, patient, understanding, fruits of the spirit – Still working on this. But this is way too vague.
-Fast once a week for something – had to stop, because I was being irate to those near me on fast days…
-One prayer request per week – not sure what I meant by this. Also too vague
Long term:
-Visit South East Asia – I’ve been to Shanghai… planning on Boracay, Phillipines earlier this year
-Build a School for God – I currently work at a school… but I don’t have complete control 😛
-Build a Hospital for God – Think I’m just going to donate to HOPE worldwide and let them deal with that
-Build a church for God – Still a biggie in my heart. Or at least provide one person on staff a full salary from my contribution

This is what I wrote to them for 2013.

- Determine your goal. – Your goals need to be S.M.A.R.T. This is an acronym that provides a checklist for making sure that what you have is indeed a goal and not merely an aspiration. It stands for:
- Specific
- Measurable
- Actionable
- Realistic
- Time-bound
- List your reasons
- Identify likely obstacles.
- Develop new behaviors.
- Stay focused.
- Determine your goal. Currently at 250 lbs. I just ate whatever I wanted the last 2 months with no exercise. Lose 1 pound a week for 1 month. If that’s successful continue. I don’t even want to talk about ideal right now because I feel like a failure for constantly battling with this.
- Reasons – Now that I am 30 I am feeling the effects of my poor health choices (e.g. heart burn, easily getting numb (sitting Indian style).) I don’t care for living a long life. But I want to live a life full of energy and vibrancy for my family.
- Identify likely obstacles – I’m going to forget. Gonna print this out after I’m done.
- Develop new behaviors. – Stay away from eating Sugar – Ice cream, chocolate – 6 days a week – cheat day: Faturday (Saturday).
- Stay focused. – Check this Daily.
- Determine your goal. Get off the internet/electronic devices for 1 month at 10 pm. I just waste time surfing the web and looking at shiny new objects all of the time.
- Reasons – This serves many purposes: Going to be earlier, focus my time one something productive, and can read after wards.
- Identify likely obstacles – I’m going to forget. Gonna print this out after I’m done.
- Develop new behaviors. – Read or write on physical pieces of paper and go to bed by 11 pm every night.
- Stay focused. – Check this Daily.
Spiritual
- Determine your goal. Read the bible for 15 minutes a day and pray for 10 minutes a day. I used to do this daily. For 1 month again.
- Reasons – My relationship with God is fragile. I don’t feel close to Him and don’t have the strength to do well. I want to feel close to the creator of all things.
- Identify likely obstacles – I’m going to forget. Gonna print this out after I’m done.
- Develop new behaviors. – Ideally this is best done in the mornings before any major activity (going to work/meeting someone) Even if its at 10:30 pm.
- Stay focused. – Check this Daily.

I wish the best for you in 2013.
