I started this a couple of weeks ago and haven’t had consistent quiet times since. I lost momentum.
It got busy during my lunch hours. When I typically have my quiet time. I need to change it to earlier in the morning.
In order to do that I need to go to bed earlier.
Maybe 9PM instead of 10PM.
That way I still can get a full 8 hours of sleep and have time to get ready for work.
That’s what I’ll start experimenting with going to bed at 9PM so I can wake up at 5AM.
1 To humans belong the plans of the heart,
but from the Lord comes the proper answer of the tongue.
The only way I know how to interpret this – I can plan things, but God chooses the timing.
2 All a person’s ways seem pure to them,
but motives are weighed by the Lord.
God ultimately measures your motives.
3 Commit to the Lord whatever you do,
and he will establish your plans.
Is what you are doing godly? If they are commit them to the Lord. Commit: trust.
4 The Lord works out everything to its proper end—
even the wicked for a day of disaster.
Everything ultimately works out the way God wants.
5 The Lord detests all the proud of heart.
Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished.
I will receive the consequences of your actions.
6 Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for;
through the fear of the Lord evil is avoided.
Evil is avoided through the fear of the Lord. Love and faithfulness covers sin.
7 When the Lord takes pleasure in anyone’s way,
he causes their enemies to make peace with them.
If you are godly even enemies will be peaceful with you.
8 Better a little with righteousness
than much gain with injustice.
Little with righteousness > much with injustice.
9 In their hearts humans plan their course,
but the Lord establishes their steps.
I make plans, but God chooses my steps.
10 The lips of a king speak as an oracle,
and his mouth does not betray justice.
Kings (Leaders) should speak the truth and be visionaries.
11 Honest scales and balances belong to the Lord;
all the weights in the bag are of his making.
Be honest with people and use the metrics you decide and publicize.
12 Kings detest wrongdoing,
for a throne is established through righteousness.
Kings(Leaders) are established through righteousness.
13 Kings take pleasure in honest lips;
they value the one who speaks what is right.
Kings prefer honesty.
14 A king’s wrath is a messenger of death,
but the wise will appease it.
The wise can appease wrath. Sounds like a super power.
15 When a king’s face brightens, it means life;
his favor is like a rain cloud in spring.
King’s face brightens it means life.
16 How much better to get wisdom than gold,
to get insight rather than silver!
Wisdom + Insight > Gold + Silver
17 The highway of the upright avoids evil;
those who guard their ways preserve their lives.
Guard your ways and avoid evil.
18 Pride goes before destruction,
a haughty spirit before a fall.
Hubris (Pride) is not good. Happens all the time in Greek tragedies.
19 Better to be lowly in spirit along with the oppressed
than to share plunder with the proud.
Poor and among the oppressed > Than Plunder and be proud.
20 Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers,
and blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord.
One who trusts in the Lord is blessed and listens to instructions.
21 The wise in heart are called discerning,
and gracious words promote instruction.
Wise = Discerning. Gracious words = instruction. Great proverb for teachers.
22 Prudence is a fountain of life to the prudent,
but folly brings punishment to fools.
Prudence is a foundation of life.
23 The hearts of the wise make their mouths prudent,
and their lips promote instruction.
Wise hearts make mouths prudent and promote instruction.
24 Gracious words are a honeycomb,
sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.
Gracious words can heal. Amen to that. I know one person who is very gracious with all her words.
25 There is a way that appears to be right,
but in the end it leads to death.
Don’t lie to yourself. Don’t justify. Be honest with yourself.
26 The appetite of laborers works for them;
their hunger drives them on.
Hunger drives laborers. My problem is that I am no longer voraciously hungry.
27 A scoundrel plots evil,
and on their lips it is like a scorching fire.

and a gossip separates close friends.
Ungodly men cause more problems.

and leads them down a path that is not good.

whoever purses their lips is bent on evil.
Some people are evil (Satan is real) and blind to the consequences.
31 Gray hair is a crown of splendor;
it is attained in the way of righteousness.
Gray hair = righteousness? I think this is questionable. The proverbs to me means wise and old people should be righteous.
32 Better a patient person than a warrior,
one with self-control than one who takes a city.
Patience and Self control > Warrior or Conquerors.
33 The lot is cast into the lap,
but its every decision is from the Lord.
One of my favorite scriptures. I use this quite often. God is in control of my life.
Tomorrow I hope to see you at 5am.
